Travel Medicine Review and Update Courses
ISTM produces a Travel Medicine Review and Update North American Course each year. The 2017 Course will be held in Washington D.C., United States 10-11 March 2017 at the Georgetown University Hotel & Conference Center. The Course provides a thorough update and review of the Body of Knowledge for the practice of travel medicine and assists in preparation for the CTH® exam. Participants also have ample opportunities to interact with the faculty through question and answer sessions and informal discussions.
The Travel Medicine Review and Update North American Course offered by the International Society of Travel Medicine is designed to review the Body of Knowledge for the Practice of Travel Medicine and to highlight recent developments in Travel Medicine. The curriculum will cover topics relevant to physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals who provide medical care and advice to travelers, expatriates, and migrants. The sessions offered will include travel clinic management issues, principles of immune response, risk assessment, and a travel vaccine overview. The expert faculty will present topics including epidemiology, enteric infections, traveler's diarrhea, malaria and other vector-borne disease, adventure and wilderness travel, environmental exposures, and evaluation of illness in returning travelers. The care of special groups such as pregnant women, pediatric travelers, immigrants, VFR travelers, diabetics, and immunocompromised hosts will be discussed. Recent developments and advances in travelers' diarrhea, immunizations, malaria medications, and emerging infectious diseases will be highlighted. Participants will have ample opportunity to interact with the faculty through interactive sessions and informal discussions.

This course provides a thorough review of the Body of Knowledge for the Practice of Travel Medicine to assist in preparation for the CTH® Examination. The course also provides a comprehensive update on recent advances in Travel Medicine.
At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:
- Describe the current epidemiology of common health risks affecting travellers
- Choose which travellers should receive vaccines relevant for travel
- Discuss the prevention and self-treatment of common travel-related illnesses such as travellers' diarrhoea
- Identify current malaria epidemiology and discuss chemoprophylaxis regimens
- Advise travellers on the prevention of disease, including being able to advise pregnant women, paediatric travellers, immigrants, VFR travellers, diabetics, and immunocompromised hosts
- Recognise illness in travellers returning from overseas travel

The rooms reserved at the Georgetown University Hotel & Conference Center have been sold out. There are several comparable hotels within a three-mile radius of the meeting location with either shuttle or public transportation options to the Course Conference Center. Registration Fee Inclusions
The registration fees include admittance to the course, continuing education application fees, the course materials, continental breakfast, and refreshment breaks. Speaker presentations will be available online prior to the meeting for printing and use of the registrants.
We hope you will be able to attend once registered for the course. If you must cancel, notice of cancellation must be received by the ISTM Secretariat (contact information below) in writing by 7 February 2017 and is subject to a USD 75 administrative fee. No refunds for cancellations will be made after 7 February 2017.
The ISTM reserves the right to cancel the course without notice or compensation in the case of an extraordinary event or circumstance beyond the control of the ISTM, such as a war, terrorist attacks, riot, crime or an event described as an "act of God" (e.g. earthquake, fire, flooding, breakout of disease, tornado). In such cases the ISTM is free of all responsibility because of such an incident. In the event of it being impossible for the course to take place due to force majeure cases, so long as it arises from a cause not attributable to the ISTM, the ISTM shall only be obliged to reimburse the payments received subject to the deduction of any costs it has incurred in preparation for the course. This liability only extends to payments made directly to the course and not to payments made by the delegates to hotels or airlines.
Certificate in Travel HealthTM Exam
ISTM will offer its 15th Certificate of Knowledge in Travel Medicine examination on 14 May 2017 prior to the opening of the 15th Conference of the ISTM in Barcelona, Spain. The certificate recognises professionals who have demonstrated expertise in the unique body of knowledge associated with travel medicine care and consultation. Professionals passing the exam will be granted a Certificate in Travel HealthTM or CTH®. ISTM members who receive the certificate will be given special recognition on the ISTM website and in the "ISTM Global Travel Clinic Directory".

ISTM Online Learning Program
To expand the reach of the ISTM educational events, the ISTM has established a distance learning program capturing individual sessions from the Travel Medicine and Review North American Course as well as from the 14th International Conference of the ISTM and have made them available through the internet. Offering more than 90 sessions of video with synchronized slides, and audio with synchronized slides, individual modules range from 30 minutes to four hours. The program includes sessions covering all of the areas in the ISTM Body of Knowledge, and features three Mock Tests to help candidates prepare for the CTH® Examination.
